Book Review: Eat, pray, love

Eat, pray, love: one woman's search for everything across Italy, India and Indonesiaby Elizabeth GilbertThis is a great book. It focuses on exploring the psyche of Ms. Gilbert as she searches for self after an ugly divorce. Ms. Gilbert, a writer, goes to Italy, India and Indonesia for extended stays in each country. There she tries to seek out God through various religious gurus. Although, in Italy she mostly immerses herself into the culture and eats her way into oblivion. A quick and entertaining read.

Book Review: The Ash Garden

The Ash Garden
by Dennis Bock
This book is not a page turner. It is a very interesting treatment of the bombing of Hiroshima. It is told from the point of view of a scientist that worked on the team that created the bomb as well as a woman who was 6 years old when the bomb fell. The woman was grossly disfigured as a child and brought to the USA as a teenager for reconstructive surgery. She lost everyone except for her old grandfather. The story is very touching from both points of view. It goes into many details and touches on emotions as well as the hardships of war. The first half of the book was extremely slow going and the second half was better. I would recommend this book to people who have an interest in WWII and/or the effects of atomic bombs.
