  1. "State of Wonder" is an intricate contemporary adventure story, by Ann Patchett, author of five previous novels, including The New York Times bestseller, and award-winning, Bel Canto, another intricate contemporary adventure story, which was also located in Latin America. Although BEL CANTO was located in an unidentified country that sounded a lot like Peru; and most of the action in STATE happens in the jungles along the Rio Negro, a tributary of the mighty Brazilian Amazon River.
