Obituary Note: Mark Strand

Mark Strand, a Canadian-born American poet, essayist and translator, "whose spare, deceptively simple investigations of rootlessness, alienation and the ineffable strangeness of life made him one of America's most hauntingly meditative poets," died Saturday, November 29th, the New York Times reported.

Born in 1934, Strand was eighty years old when he died. Named the poet laureate in 1990, Strand also won the 1999 Pulitzer Prize for Poetry for Blizzard of One.
